Whether we believed war would begin or not – we all remember that day in 2022 well.
Thursday is usually a light day in our industry. Less waste, fewer routes to cover. But the massive missile attack on many Ukrainian cities around 5 a.m. disrupted all plans.
We didn't go to work on February 24. And for the next few days as well. During this time, life in the cities continued – hence, garbage accumulated. We had to quickly restructure communication between departments, adapt to working in the absence of internet and mobile connection, electricity, and with danger to life. We gave residents advice on how to minimize waste and focused on critical infrastructure – government and defense facilities, hospitals, stations, energy facilities. On February 28, our garbage trucks went back on the routes, and some of the employees returned to the Kyiv office. We risked our lives every day, but waste removal for the city is crucial.
Three years of war. Three years of pain, loss, resilience. Three years that changed each of us. We learned to live with the sound of sirens, make decisions in uncertainty, plan the future without knowing whether you'll wake up in the morning. Every night, every day it's a challenge we endure together.
Three years of war is also three years of our strength. Three years of belief in victory and readiness to give lives for our freedom. We have proven to ourselves and the whole world that Ukrainians are a people that cannot be broken.
We don't know when this war will end, but we are sure: Ukraine will stand. We will stand. Evil must be stopped and punished. The feeling of inner righteousness multiplies our strength and unites us. Together we are invincible.
We thank the Veolia European community for the invaluable support of Ukrainian colleagues from «Altvater Kyiv», «Altvater Ternopil», «Altvater Chernivtsi». Thermostat, Ecoflow, power banks, means for disinfecting drinking water, evacuation assistance of employees with children abroad – and this is not all. The Veolia charity fund for financial support of affected Veolia Ukraine employees still exists. Your solidarity gives us strength in the fight and will be kept forever in the nation's heart.
Endless gratitude to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to live and work on our land. You are our heroes.
Glory to Ukraine!
