The Storming of the Bastille is considered as a beginning of the Great French Revolution. The holiday was officially established in 1880. Since then, the Bastille assault is considered as a symbol of concord and unity of the French nation, and the day of country's independence.

On this occasion, the French Embassy in Ukraine held an official reception, getting a special character this year, due to the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and France.
